PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. (AFIE) – A C-130 Hercules from the 302nd Airlift Wing, equipped with Modular Airborne Firefighting System, is resupplied with water from a nearby bladder at Gowen Airfield in Boise, Idaho during annual MAFFS training.  The 302nd Airlift Wing here began flying specially equipped C-130 aircraft June 14 to combat forest fires in Colorado. Multiple forest fires throughout the state prompted the U.S. Forest Service to request the activation of the Department of Defense's Modular Airborne Firefighting System mission.  The U.S. Forest Service has the option of requesting the MAFFS-equipped C-130s to combat forest fires after all civilian assets have been exhausted.
