Working the night shift, Aviation Structural Mechanic (Structures) Airman David Powers of Hartford, Conn., sands down the inside of an F-14B Tomcat jet engine intake in hangar bay two on board the U.S. Navy's nuclear powered aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73) April 18, 1996. Powers is stationed with the "Dogs" of Fighter Squadron One Four Three (VF-143). The red lights in the hangar bay allow Sailors to maintain their night vision as they work. The George Washington, commanded by Capt. Malcolm P. Branch, is currently deployed to the Arabian Gulf in support of Operation Southern Watch.
