Caption:

A line of traffic forms behind an F-14A Tomcat as it is transported the 19.5 miles from San Angelo Regional Airport to Goodfellow Air Force Base, Texas at a rate of 5 MPH after being decommissioned by the Navy.  Every couple of miles cars would be directed by San Angelo Police Department Escorts to help relieve the traffic build up. This F-14A was the first F-14A to be decommissioned by the Navy and was bought by Goodfellow AFB for $20,000 to be used for training by the 312th Training Squadron's Fire Training Academy.  The plane's engines, weapons, and related systems had to be removed before transport to Goodfellow AFB and a few safety alterations will have to be made for the plane to be used for training.
