Atlantic Ocean (Mar. 26, 2005) -- Aviation Machinist's Mate 3rd Class Jesse L. Alvarado of Ingleton, Texas, ensures the tail hook of a F-14D Tomcat, assigned to the "Tomcatters" of Fighter Squadron Three One (VF-31), is properly seated during his pre-launch checks aboard the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71). Pre-launch checks are conducted to the aircraft prior to launching to ensure maximum safety during flight operations. The "Tomcatters" are embarked aboard Theodore Roosevelt as part of Carrier Air Wing Eight (CVW-8). Roosevelt is currently underway for Tailored Ship Training Availability and Final Evaluation Problem (TSTA/FEP) in the Atlantic Ocean. U.S. Navy photo by Photographer's Mate 1st Class James E.
