 Souda Bay, Crete, Greece (Mar. 3, 2003) -- A U.S. Air Force pilot sits in his A-10 Thunderbolt's titanium armored cockpit as he prepares for departure.  The Thunderbolt is specifically designed for close air support of ground troops and its 30mm GAU-8/A Gatling gun can fire 3,900 rounds per minute and can defeat an array of ground targets to include tanks.  U.S. Navy photo by Paul Farley.
