Coast of Okinawa, Japan (Jan. 25, 2003) -- An AV-8B Harrier assigned to
the "Diamondbacks" of Marine Attack Squadron One Three One (VMA-131),
31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) Air Combat Element (ACE), lands on
the flight deck of USS Essex (LHD 2) during deck landing
qualifications. Essex is the Navy's only forward deployed amphibious
assault ship, and is steaming independently off the coast of Okinawa,
Japan conducting biannual training in an Urban Environment Exercise.
