Atlantic Ocean (July 12, 2004) -- Marine Corps Sgt. Adam Alewine,
assigned to the "Bulldogs" of Marine Attack Squadron Two Two Three
(VMA-223), stands on the wing of an AV-8B Harrier II while preparing to
inject demineralized water into the water tank of the jet aboard the
amphibious assault ship USS Saipan (LHA 2). The water is used to cool
the aircraft's engine and provide maximum thrust and performance.
Saipan is at sea conducting training exercises for a scheduled
