A Wyoming Air National Guard C-130 Hercules equipped with a Modular Airborne Fire Fighting System drops a water and fire retardant slurry on a fire on the Indonesian island of Sumatra on Nov. 17, 1997.  Three C-130s and a total of 96 service members were sent to Indonesia for humanitarian support in fighting the jungle fires. The mission is providing the National Guard a first-time opportunity to fight forest fires internationally while using the Modular Airborne Fire Fighting Systems or MAFFS.  Two of the C-130s are equipped with the U.S. Forest Service-owned MAFFS to douse fires from the air.  The Wyoming Air National Guard's 153rd Airlift Wing is one of only four in the U.S. equipped to perform aerial fire fighting missions.  DoD photo by Staff Sgt. Daryl McKamey, Air National Guard.
