Clark Air Base, Republic of the Philippines (Feb. 18, 2006) - U.S. service members assigned to a 12-man Humanitarian Assistance Survey Team  (HAST) move gear to a KC-130 Hercules aircraft. The HAST team flew from Clark to survey the area effected by the Feb. 17 landslide in Leyte, Philippines. The Armed Forces of the Philippines will work with the team to assess the damage and immediate needs in the area.  The amphibious assault ship USS Essex (LHD 2) and dock landing ship USS Harpers Ferry (LSD 49) transporting elements of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit will deliver humanitarian assistance supplies to include food, water, medicine, blankets and body bags to the affected area as early as Feb.19.
