EXERCISE TANDEM THRUST 2001, TOWNSVILLE, Australia -- A US Air
Force MC-130P Shadow from the 353rd Special Operations Squadron,
Kadena, Japan prepares to take off from the Royal Australian Air Force
Base, Townsville, Queensland. The aircraft is departing for a night
mission over Shoalwater Bay Training Area. EExercise Tandem
Thrust 2001 is a combined United States and Australian military
training exercise. This biennial exercise is being held in the vicinity
of Shoalwater Bay Training Area, Queensland, Australia. More than
27,000 Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines are participating, with
Canadian units taking part as opposing forces. The purpose of Exercise
Tandem Thrust is to train for crisis action planning and execution of
