Philippine Sea (June 11, 2003) -- An Aviation Boatswain's Mate quickly clears himself away from the E-2C Hawkeye from the "Golden Hawks" of Airborne Early Warning Squadron One One Two (VAW-112) after verifying that the aircraft is properly connected to the catapult shuttle seconds before launching from one of four steam driven catapults during flight operations.  USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) and her escorts will remain in the Western Pacific while the forward deployed USS Kitty Hawk undergoes maintenance in order to maintain a responsible defensive posture in the region.
