ABOARD USS KITTY HAWK (May 11, 2001) -- A CH-46 Sea Knight helicopter unloads  cargo onto the USS Kitty Hawk (CV63) during a Vertical replenishment (VERTREP).  USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63) is currently engaged in Exercise Tandem Thrust 01. Exercise Tandem Thrust 01 is a combined United States and Australian military training exercise. This biannual exercise is being held in the vicinity of Shoal water Bay training area, Queensland, Australia. More than 27,000 Soldiers, Sailors, Airman and Marines are participating. Canadian units are taking part as opposing forces. Tandem Thrust is a training exercise for crisis action planning and execution for contingency response operations. Kitty Hawk operates out of Yokosuka Navel Base, Japan and is the worlds only permanently forward-deployed aircraft carrier.   U.S. Navy Photo by Photographer's Mate Airman Staci M. Bitzer.
