Humanitarian assistance is dropped into the Panjshir Province’s
Paryan District Oct. 28. At nearly 10,000 feet above sea level, Paryan
has the highest elevation of the six districts in the Panjshir Valley.
Since the rough and narrow road to the district cannot support truck
transport, helicopter airlift of supplies was necessary. Using slings
around pallets of food supplies, a Chinook helicopter's crew prepares
to drop off one of two loads totaling four tons to help the
district’s 38K residents prepare for winter. (U.S. Air Force
