Norfolk, Va. (Feb. 5, 2005) – An MH-53E Sea Dragon helicopter, assigned to the “Vanguard” of Helicopter Mine Countermeasures Squadron Fourteen (HM-14), flies over Naval Station Norfolk, Va., during a routine training mission. HM-14 is one of the two squadrons Navy-wide that has integrated a Reserve airborne countermeasures squadron with its active duty counterpart. The MH-53E Sea Dragon is a mine-countermeasures derivative of the CH-53E Super Stallion. It is heavier and has a greater fuel capacity that the Super Stallion. The MH-53E is capable of towing a variety of minesweeping countermeasures systems, including the MK 105 minesweeping sled, the AQS-14 side-scan sonar, and the MK 103 mechanical minesweeping system.
