New Orleans (Sept. 3, 2005) -- U.S. Air Force personnel and U.S. Navy air crewmen, assigned to the “Black Hawks” of Helicopter Mine Countermeasures Squadron Fifteen (HM-15), direct Hurricane Katrina survivors from the back ramp of an MH-53E Sea Dragon helicopter at the New Orleans International Airport. HM-15 is conducting relief operations from the amphibious assault ship USS Bataan (LHD 5) in the Gulf of Mexico. The Navy's involvement in the Hurricane Katrina humanitarian assistance operations is led by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), in conjunction with the Department of Defense.
