Persian Gulf (June 13, 2005) -- A catapult safety observer looks to ensure that all personnel are clear of the foul lines before attaching the nose gear of an F/A-18C Hornet, assigned to the "Blue Diamonds" of Strike Fighter Squadron One Four Six (VFA-146), to the catapult shuttle prior to launching from USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70). The Carl Vinson Carrier Strike Group is currently deployed conducting operations in support of multi-national forces in Iraq and maritime security operations in order to set the conditions for security and stability in the region. Vinson will end its deployment with a homeport shift to Norfolk, Va., and commence a three-year refuel and complex overhaul. U.S. Navy photo by Photographer's Mate 2nd Class Inez Lawson (RELEASED)
