At sea aboard the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72)
Sep. 21, 2002 -- An F-18C Hornet assigned to the "Fist of the
Fleet" of Strike Fighter Squadron Two Five (VFA-25), launches from one
of the ship's four steam catapults. During a catapult launch
the Hornet will reach a speed of 175 mph (152 knots) in 2.2
seconds and in just 250 feet. Lincoln and its embarked Carrier
Air Wing One Four (CVW-14) are conducting combat missions in support of
Operation Enduring Freedom and Southern Watch. U.S. Navy photo by
