7th Fleet Area of Responsibility (AOR) Mar. 21, 2004 -- Plane Captain Airman Derek D. Eibensteiner, of Startell, Minn., tightens a tie-down chain on an F/A-18C Hornet assigned to the "Royal Maces" of Strike Fighter Squadron Two Seven (VFA-27) aboard the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63). Plane Captains take care of the aircraft assigned to them, ensuring they remain in top flying condition at all times and conduct all pre-flight checks and start-ups with the Aircrew. Kitty Hawk is currently underway in the 7th Fleet area of responsibility (AOR), and is the U.S. Navy's only permanently forward-deployed aircraft carrier, operating from Yokosuka, Japan.
