Arabian Gulf (Sept. 4, 2004) -- An F/A-18C Hornet assigned to the "Sunliners" of Strike Fighter Squadron Eight One (VFA-81), right, launches off the conventionally powered aircraft carrier USS John F Kennedy (CV 67) during flight operations in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). The F/A-18C Hornet is an all-weather attack aircraft that can also be used as a fighter. In its attack mode, it is used for force projection, interdiction and close-air support. Kennedy and embarked Carrier Air Wing Seventeen (CVW-17) are operating in the 5th fleet area of responsibility (AOR) in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF).  Units in the Kennedy Carrier Strike Group are working closely with Multi-National Corps-Iraq and Iraqi forces to bring stability to the sovereign government of Iraq.
