USS KITTY HAWK (CV 63), At Sea (Aug. 7, 2005) -- Two F/A-18 Super Hornet aircraft from Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 27 and Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 102 prepare to launch during Joint Air and Sea Exercise (JASEX) on the flight deck of USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63).  The Navy's USS Kitty Hawk Carrier Strike Group, including the embarked air wing, and USS Boxer (LHD 4) are participating in the third annual JASEX 2005 with the U.S. Air Force, and U.S. Marine Corps in the western Pacific.  JASEX focuses on integrated joint training proficiency in detecting, locating, tracking and engaging units at sea, in the air, and on land, in response to a range of mission areas.  Currently under way in the 7th Fleet area of responsibility (AOR), Kitty Hawk demonstrates power projection and sea control as the U.S. Navy's only permanently forward-deployed aircraft carrier, operating from Yokosuka, Japan.  U.S. Navy photo by Photographer's Mate Airman Apprentice Ralph Michael Zamora
