USS KITTY HAWK (CV 63), At Sea (Aug. 7, 2005) -- Two F/A-18 Super
Hornet aircraft from Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 27 and Strike
Fighter Squadron (VFA) 102 prepare to launch during Joint Air and Sea
Exercise (JASEX) on the flight deck of USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63).
The Navy's USS Kitty Hawk Carrier Strike Group, including the embarked
air wing, and USS Boxer (LHD 4) are participating in the third annual
JASEX 2005 with the U.S. Air Force, and U.S. Marine Corps in the
western Pacific. JASEX focuses on integrated joint training
proficiency in detecting, locating, tracking and engaging units at sea,
in the air, and on land, in response to a range of mission areas.
Currently under way in the 7th Fleet area of responsibility (AOR),
Kitty Hawk demonstrates power projection and sea control as the U.S.
Navy's only permanently forward-deployed aircraft carrier, operating
