USS KITTY HAWK (CV 63), At Sea (Aug. 7, 2005) -- An aviation boatswain's mate handler moves to direct an F/A-18E Super Hornet from Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 27 in preparation for flight operations on board USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63).  The F/A-18 is an all-weather attack aircraft that can also be used as a fighter.  The Navy's USS Kitty Hawk Carrier Strike Group, including the embarked air wing, and USS Boxer (LHD 4) are participating in the third annual Joint Air and Sea Exercise (JASEX) with the U.S. Air Force, and U.S. Marine Corps in the western Pacific. JASEX focuses on integrated joint proficiency in detecting, locating, tracking, and engaging units at sea, in the air, and on land, in response to a range of mission areas.   U.S. Navy photo by Photographer's Mate Airman Jarod Hodge
