PACIFIC OCEAN (April 18, 2008) -- An F/A-18E Super Hornet assigned to Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 27 waits for take off as steam clears from an earlier launch aboard the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63). Steam-powered catapults launch aircraft at speeds reaching 180 mph in about 250 feet.
