Pacific Ocean (Aug. 1, 2005) -- An F/A-18F Super Hornet assigned to the "Diamondbacks" of Fighter Squadron One Zero Two (VFA-102), launches off the flight deck aboard the conventionally-powered aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63). The Diamondbacks are one of the nine squadrons and detachments that comprise Carrier Air Wing Five (CVW-5) embarked aboard Kitty Hawk and permanently forward deployed to Naval Air Facility Atsugi, Japan. Embarked Carrier Air Wing Five (CVW-5) and the Kitty Hawk Carrier Strike Group are currently participating in Exercise Orange Crush. Orange Crush is a joint exercise with the Air Force, which involves air defense exercises, large-scale strikes, search and rescue operations, forward air patrols and alert launches.
