At sea aboard USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74) Feb. 26, 2002 -- An
SH-60F Sea Hawk assigned to the "Eightballers" of Helicopter
Antisubmarine Squadron Eight (HS-8) refuels on the flight deck
between cyclic flight operations. Referred to as the "plane
guard", the aircraft serves in a safety capacity, and continuously
patrols in the vicinity of the carrier to conduct search and rescue
operations as appropriate during flight operations. John C.
Stennis and Carrier Air Wing Nine (CVW-9) are conducting combat
missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. U.S. Navy
