Persian Gulf (Jan. 3, 2005) - An MH-60R Strikehawk helicopter lifts off from the guided missile destroyer USS Mason (DDG 87) to conduct an aerial security patrol over the Central Persian Gulf. The MH-60R Strikehawk is the Navy's newest version of the H-60 helicopter series and will replace the SH-60B and SH-60F models. The aircraft is enhanced with a new Lockheed Martin glass cockpit, as well as mission improvements that include the sonar, radar, electronic support measures and an integrated self-defense suite. Mason is on her first deployment to the Persian Gulf as part of the USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75) Carrier Strike Group, to support coalition efforts in the Global War on Terrorism.
