Indian Ocean (Apr. 8, 2005) -- A Landing Signal Enlisted Sailor guides an MH-60S Knighthawk helicopter, assigned to Helicopter Combat Support Squadron Five (HC-5), during a vertical replenishment aboard the Military Sealift Command (MSC) hospital ship USNS Mercy (T-AH 19). Mercy and the MSC underway replenishment oiler USNS Tippecanoe (T-AO 199) conducted a vertical replenishment off the coast of Nias, Indonesia, where Mercy is involved in humanitarian relief efforts in the wake of the devastating earthquakes that struck the island March 28, 2005. HC-5 is embarked aboard the MSC combat stores ship USNS Niagara Falls (T-AFS 3). At the request of the government of Indonesia, Mercy and Niagara Falls are on station off the coast of Nias, providing assistance as determined appropriate and necessary with earthquake disaster relief efforts and provide medical assistance to those in need.
