POTTS DAM, PAPUA NEW GUINEA (May 19, 2005) -- Aviation
Machinist’s Mate 2nd Class (AW) Shawn Buller of Jasper, Texas,
guides an MH-60S Seahawk helicopter attached to Helicopter Sea Combat
Squadron Two Five (HSC-25) as it airlifts pallets of water to shore to
the village of Potts Dam as medical personnel from USNS Mercy (T-AH 19)
and USNS Niagara Falls (T-AFS 3) provide health care and community
relations (COMREL) to the island of Madang, Papua New Guinea.
Niagara Falls is currently sailing off the coast of northeastern coast
of Madang where a volcano erupted earlier this year. San Diego based
hospital ship Mercy and the MSC combat stores ship USNS Niagara Falls
(T-AFS 3) have arrived off the coast of Papua New Guinea to provide
humanitarian assistance and focused medical care to the residents to
the area. Mercy is en route to its homeport of San Diego after taking
part in Operation Unified Assistance in support of the tsunami and
earthquake devastation, which struck Indonesia.
