At sea aboard USS George Washington (CVN 73) Jul. 24, 2002 -- Aviation
Boatswain's Mate 3rd Class Heath Oelman from Ackley, IA, helps
guide the launch bar onto the shuttle of catapult three as an
EA-6B Prowler assigned to the “Scorpions” from
Tactical Electronic Warfare Squadron One Three Two (VAQ 132) prepares
to launch from the ship’s flight deck. The “Prowler”
provides an umbrella of protection over strike aircraft, ground troops,
and ships by jamming enemy radar, electronic data-links, and
communications. The Norfolk, Va.-based aircraft carrier is on a
six-month deployment in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. U.S.
