At sea aboard USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) Aug. 28, 2002 -- An S-3B Viking assigned to the "Blue Wolves" of Sea Control Squadron Three Five (VS-35), launches from catapult three during flight operations aboard USS Abraham Lincoln. The S-3B Viking is an all weather, carrier-based jet aircraft, providing protection against hostile surface combatants while also functioning as the Carrier Battle Groups' primary overhead-mission tanker. Extremely versatile, the aircraft is equipped for many missions, including, day and night surveillance, electronic countermeasures, command and control, communications warfare, and search and rescue (SAR).  Lincoln and her embarked Carrier Air Wing Fourteen (CVW-14) are transiting to the Arabian Gulf to conduct combat missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.  U.S. Navy photo by Photographer's Mate Airman Philip A.
