HAT YAO BEACH, Thailand – U.S. Marine Corps Amphibious Assault Vehicles embarked USS Fort McHenry (LSD 43) land on Hat Yao Beach, Thailand, May 28, to secure the area for combined amphibious landing force exercise (CALFEX) as part of Cobra Gold 2002.  The CALFEX was the highlight of 14 days of training between the U.S. and Royal Thai Navies and Marine Corps, which all started May 14.  Cobra Gold is a joint/combined exercise and is the latest in a continuing series of U.S.-Thai military exercises designed to ensure regional peace and strengthen the ability of the Royal Thai armed forces to respond to regional contingencies.  Official U.S. Navy Photograph by: Photographer's Mate Airman (AW) Gary B.
