THAR THAR REGION, Iraq -- Sgt. Steven Phillips, an amphibious assault
vehicle crew chief with Company B, 2nd Assault Amphibian Battalion,
stands behind his vehicle’s weapons turret as he scans the
horizons here for insurgent activity. The 27-year-old Vidor,
Texas native and several fellow AAV crewmen recently assisted 1st
Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment personnel in conducting Operation
Dagger, a five-day long effort to rid regions north of Fallujah of
insurgent activity.
