Task Force 1-501st out of Fort Richardson, Alaska, has been based at
Salerno Forward Operating Base (FOB Salerno), Afghanistan, since
November 2003. Avalanche has been conducted by the 1-501st Parachute
Infantry Regiment to destroy anti-coalition militia (ACM) on objectives
in order to deny ACM sanctuary and set conditions for future
