Marines with the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit 1st Light Armor Reconnaissance Battalion Landing Team stationed at 29 Palms, Calif., conduct live fire desert training with the U.A.E. military, Dec. 14, 2003.  The U.A.E. military is using the Soviet made BMP tank. The training is being conducted by Marines and sailors supporting Expeditionary Strike Group 1 (ESG 1).  ESG 1 is an example of the Navy and Marine Corps' commitment to the Secretary of Defense's vision to transform the U.S. Armed Forces for the 21st Century.  ESG's are designed to enable the United States to conduct shaping operations in the Global War on Terrorism.  ESG 1 is currently deployed to the Commander, U.S. Fifth Fleet Area of Responsibility in support of Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom.  (U.S. Navy photo by Photographer's Mate 1st Class Ted Banks) (Released)
