Pacific Ocean (Sept. 3, 2003) -- The fast combat support ship USS
Sacramento (AOE 1) cruises ahead of USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) preparing
to begin an underway replenishment (UNREP). The ships are part of the
Carl Vinson Strike Group, which will remain in the western Pacific
during the maintenance period of the forward deployed USS Kitty Hawk
(CV 63). U.S. policy is to maintain at least one operational carrier in
the region to ensure a responsive defensive posture. U.S. Navy
