The Navy officially accepted Charles Drew, July 14, during a ceremony at the General Dynamics-NASSCO shipyard in San Diego. The ship is named in honor of Dr. Charles R. Drew, the African American surgeon and hematologist who developed procedures for safe storage and transfusion of blood. (RELEASED)
