Aboard USS Barry (DDG 52) Apr. 26, 2004 - A Sailor assigned to USS Barry (DDG 52) stands watch on the ship's fantail.  The guided missile destroyer Barry is currently underway participating in a Sink Exercise (SINKEX) involving the decommissioned dock landing ship Portland (LSD 37). Using decommissioned ships for live-fire operations gives ships' crews the experience of launching operational weapons and honing their war-fighting skills. The decommissioned ships are first made environmentally safe prior to towing and sinking in safe waters off prospective coastlines.  U.S. Navy photo by Photographer's Mate Airman Ryan O'Connor.
