At sea aboard USS Stethem (DDG 63) Oct. 16, 2002 -- A U.S. Navy “Tomahawk” cruise missile launches from the Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer’s vertical launch system at the Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) western test range complex. This test is part of the Tactical Tomahawk Weapons Control System (TTWCS) technical evaluation process. TTWCS is the next generation cruise missile weapons control system scheduled for introduction to the fleet in 2004. “Tomahawk” missiles are deployed throughout the world’s oceans on Aegis-class cruisers, guided missile destroyers, and Seawolf and Los Angeles class submarines. Stethem is underway conducting operations off the coast of California, in the Pacific Ocean. U.S. Navy photo. (RELEASED)
