Norfolk, Va. Guided missile destroyers operate in support of carrier
battle groups, surface action groups, amphibious groups, and
replenishment groups. Destroyers primarily perform anti-submarine
warfare duty while guided missile destroyers are multi-mission
(anti-submarine, anti-air, and anti-surface warfare) surface
