Norfolk, Va. (Nov. 6, 2006) -- Almost 300 crew members aboard the guided-missile destroyer USS Ross (DDG 71) returned to homeport at Naval Station Norfolk. The Ross returned after a six-month deployment in support of Operation Active Endeavour (OAE) in the Mediterranean Sea as part of Standing NATO Maritime Group 2 (SNMG-2). While on deployment Ross worked with more than sixty NATO and non-NATO ships from Israel and Russia and submarines and aircraft from England, Greece, Italy, Turkey and the United States. The deployment was designed to be flexible and provided presence and strike power to support joint and allied forces afloat and ashore.
