Arabian Gulf (Oct. 21, 2004) -- A Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat (RHIB) carrying a Visit, Board, Search and Seizure (VBSS) team assigned to the guided missile destroyer USS Preble (DDG 88), returns after conducting a Maritime Interception Operation (MIO) on a merchant vessel traveling through the Northern Arabian Gulf. MIOs contribute to security and stability at sea and in the littorals. VBSS teams from U.S. and coalition forces conduct compliant boarding’s in order to prevent terrorist attacks, illegal smuggling and for protection of both shipping and the environment. Preble is home ported in San Diego, Calif. She is assigned to Expeditionary Strike Group Three (ESG-3) in support of the sovereign government of Iraq.
