Coronado, Calif. (May 5, 2004) -- The Navy's newest guided missile destroyer PCU Pinckney (DDG 91) sailed past downtown San Diego for the first time on the way to its homeport Naval Base San Diego.  Pinckney's commissioning ceremony will be held May 29, 2004 at Port Hueneme, Calif., when it will officially become a United States Ship (USS).  The ship is named in honor of Navy Cook 1st Class William Pinckney, who received the Navy Cross for his courageous rescue of a fellow crew member aboard USS Enterprise (CV 6) during the Battle of Santa Cruz Island October 26, 1942.  U.S. Navy photo by Photographer's Mate 1st Class Daniel N.
