Panama City, Fla. (Aug. 20, 2004) - The Navy's newest guided missile destroyer, Momsen (DDG 92), receives a full escort by a helicopter and a high-speed patrol boat as the ship pulls into Panama City. The Momsen will be commissioned on Aug. 28, 2004, in Panama City in honor of Vice Admiral Charles "Swede" Momsen. Admiral Momsen is best known for the development of a submarine escape breathing apparatus, which became known as the "Momsen Lung." His contributions to the Naval Diving Community are honored with the commissioning of the Navy's newest destroyer bearing his namesake.
