NORFOLK, Va. (July 24, 2008) The attack submarine USS Scranton (SSN
756) departs Naval Station Norfolk to complete electronic navigation
certification using the voyage management system (VMS). VMS use a
combination of digital charts, constant global positioning system
fixes, environmental sensors and electronic command and controls and
allows the submarine to eliminate many of the constraining aspects of
