The Atlantic Ocean (Jun. 12, 2002) -- Guided missile cruiser USS San Jacinto (CG 56), guided-missile destroyer USS Mitscher (DDG 57), guided-missile frigate USS Hawes (FFG 53), and the Spruance-class destroyer USS Briscoe (DD 977) steam in formation during a joint U.S. and British missile exercise.  During the exercise, the decommissioned ship USS Wainwright was targeted and sunk in the Atlantic Ocean. Ships used in these types of exercises are inspected and made environmentally safe before sinking, and are disguised to create reefs for marine life.  U.S. Navy photo by Photographer's Mate 2nd Class Isaac Merriman.  (RELEASED)
