Pacific Ocean (Feb. 15, 2005) -- The guided missile cruiser USS Cowpens
(CG 63) underway in the western Pacific Ocean during a winter
deployment cruise with USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63), as a part of Carrier
Strike Group Five (CSG-5). The role of a guided-missile cruiser
in a carrier strike group ranges from anti-air warfare to long-range
strike and anti-surface warfare. Currently under way in the 7th Fleet
area of responsibility, Kitty Hawk demonstrates power projection and
sea control as the U.S. Navy's only forward-deployed aircraft carrier,
