Pacific Missile Range Facility, Kauai, Hawaii (Jun 13, 2002) -- The
Missile defense Agency (MDA) and the U.S. Navy announced a successful
flight test in the continuing development of the Sea-Based Midcourse
(SMD) element of the Ballistic Missile Defense System capability.
Flight Mission Three (FM-3) involved the firing of a developmental
Standard Missile Three (SM-3) from the Aegis cruiser USS Lake Erie (CG
70) to intercept an Aries ballistic missile target launched for the
Pacific Missile Range Facility on the island of Kauai, Hawaii.
