Pacific Missile Range Facility, Kauai, Hawaii (Jun 13, 2002) -- The Missile defense Agency (MDA) and the U.S. Navy announced a successful flight test in the continuing development of the Sea-Based Midcourse (SMD) element of the Ballistic Missile Defense System capability.  Flight Mission Three (FM-3) involved the firing of a developmental Standard Missile Three (SM-3) from the Aegis cruiser USS Lake Erie (CG 70) to intercept an Aries ballistic missile target launched for the Pacific Missile Range Facility on the island of Kauai, Hawaii.  U.S. Navy photo.  (RELEASED)
