PEARL HARBOR, Hawaii (Feb. 22, 2008) -- Rear Adm. Alan B. Hicks,
program director for the Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) program,
speaks with members of the media on the pier onboard Naval Station
Pearl Harbor as the Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Lake
Erie (CG 70) returns to Pearl Harbor. Lake Erie fired a modified
Standard Missile-3 (SM-3) on Feb. 20 which successfully destroyed a
malfunctioning U.S. reconnaissance satellite approximately 247
kilometers (133 nautical miles) over the Pacific Ocean as it traveled
