PEARL HARBOR, Hawaii (Feb. 22, 2008) -- The Ticonderoga class guided-missile cruiser USS Lake Erie (CG 70) returns to Naval Station Pearl Harbor after firing a single modified Standard Missile-3 (SM-3) Feb. 20 which successfully destroyed a malfunctioning U.S. reconnaissance satellite approximately 247 kilometers (133 nautical miles) over the Pacific Ocean traveling in space at more than 17,000 mph.
