South China Sea (May 28, 2006) -- Sailors off the port side of the U.S. Navy's guided missile frigate USS Crommelin (FFG 37) approach the Military Sealift Command prepositioning ship MV Sgt. William R. Button (T-AK 3012) by rigid-hulled inflatable boats (RHIBs). The U.S. Navy team boarded Button during a simulated exercise looking for illegal weapons, which are reportedly being smuggled aboard. The simulation was part of the Southeast Asia Cooperation Against Terrorism (SEACAT) exercise scenario. SEACAT is a weeklong at-sea exercise designed to highlight the value of information sharing and multi-national coordination within a scenario that gives participating navies practical maritime interception training opportunities. Button is part of Maritime Prepositioining Ship Squadron 2, operating from the British Indian Ocean Territory of Diego Garcia, and carries heavy combat equipment and supplies for the U.S. Marine Corps.
