Mediterranean Sea (Oct. 17, 2003) -- The guided missile frigate USS
Nicholas (FFG 47) and a helicopter from the Spanish frigate SPS Navarra
(F-85) track a simulated cargo vessel, thought to be transporting
weapons of mass destruction during a training exercise in the
Mediterranean Sea. The four day Spanish led phase is the third of
ten phases in which armed forces from eleven nations participate in
multinational Maritime Interdiction Operation (MIO) training exercises
tracking, boarding and seizing suspect vessels transporting weapons of
